Effects of Molybdenum Treatments on Maize and Sunflower Seedlings

چکیده
The aim of the present study was to examine whether increasing molybdenum (Mo) concentration affects the growth and Mo concentration of maize (Zea mays L. cv Norma SC) and sunflower (Helianthus annuus L. cv Arena PR) seedlings within laboratory conditions. In this experiment, calcareous chernozem soil was used and Mo was supplemented into the soil as ammonium molybdate [(NH4)6Mo7O24.4H2O] in four different concentrations as follow: 0 (control), 30, 90 and 270 mg·kg. In this study, we found that molybdenum in small amount (30 mg·kg) affects positively on growth of maize and sunflower seedlings, however, higher concentration of Mo reduces the dry weights of shoots and roots. In the case of maize the highest Mo treatment (270 mg·kg) and in sunflower 90 mg·kg treatment caused significant reduction in plant growth. In addition, we observed that molybdenum contents in the roots and shoots were very low in case of control soil but were significantly elevated with increasing concentration of Mo treatment. Only in case of sunflower the highest 270 mg·kg Mo treatment caused decrease in Mo concentration. Keywords—Dry weight, maize, molybdenum, sunflower.

Selenium and molybdenum are essential trace elements. Considering the characteristics of selenium and molybdenum, our research had the following purposes for both elements: Considering Se the uptake of selenium was investigatein maize and sunflower seedling, moreover the different effect of two selenium species (selenite and selenite) for the examined plants (a monocotyledon (maize, Zea mays L....

Sunflower is a potent allelopathic plant which possesses important allelochemicals with known allelopathic activity on other plants. In this study, allelopathic effects of fresh aqueous extracts (FAE) and air dried aqueous extracts (DAE) of root, shoot and leaves of sunflower (Halianthus annuus L.) were investigated on germination and seedling growth of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and maize (Z...

Aluminum toxicity is one of the most deleterious factors for plant growth in acidic soils because over 50% of the world’s potentially arable lands are acidic. In recent years, considerable research has been conducted to understand the mechanisms of Al toxicity and tolerance in plants. This paper reviews the effects of different concentration of Al on plant shoot, root physiological parameters s...

To investigate responses of Glycyrrhiza glabra var. glabra and G. glabra var. glandulifera to molybdenum and salicylic acid, we measured four stress biochemical parameters: anthocyanin, nitric acid, glycyrrhizic acid and peroxidase activity in callus tissues. Callus tissues obtained from seedlings root cultures were treated by 60 mg. l-1 molybdenum and 5 µM salicylic acid alone or together for...
